Well, it's a new day and a new entry...
I absolutely love homeschooling. My kids are wonderful. I love the fact that we can get to work, finish, and spend the rest of the day doing whatever. I know that I will never put them back into public school. I might consider a good Christian school, but not public! I love the freedom homeschooling offers, and the ability to monitor what they are learning. If you have never thought about it, I would suggest looking into it. Don't get me wrong, it does have its challenges. However, the rewards far outweigh those challenges.
I'm not a conspiracy theorist (yes, it is soapbox time), but I do not understand public school's thought processes. I learned today from a note in the backpack of one of my foster children that the state does not recommend that children sound out words as they are reading.....what? They seem to think it slows the flow of reading and the comprehension. I would surmise that reading words incorrectly might not slow the "flow", but it certainly destroys any level of comprehension. Therefore, we now have another nut job trying to change public curriculum because they think they can improve something that has already been proven to work. As I recall from when I was in elementary education in college, phonics is the proven method. At one time schools left phonics to pursue other methods and reading scores all the way around started dropping. New generation and a decade or so later and now we have the same problem beginning to occur. Seriously, let's actually learn from the past before we screw up again. All I know (get ready for the home school plug) is my fifth grader reads at 7th and 8th grade levels, my third grader is reading at 4th and 5th grade levels, and my first grader is now on track..now that I have retaught her how to read correctly. Yes, I have had to reteach her. I was beginning to think she had dislexia, but know she simply didn't know how to sound words out.
Now here is the conspiracy part....
I think I know why we seem to be failing in areas of social reform, education, blah, blah, blah:
The reason is this: We no longer accept God as our measuring stick. What does that mean? In our lives as Christians, we are filled with the desire to do what is the "acceptable will of God". That basically implies we should always do our best. I come to that conclusion by understanding that God is perfect. As someone who has accepted His grace and have Jesus in my heart, then I would want nothing less than to try to do His will. His will would be for me to live more like Jesus, and to try to die to sin on a daily basis. That would mean that some of the characteristics that seem to plague our socitey could be eliminated and growth and prosperity would once again exist (see these verses about those plagues of society: Galatians 5;19-21 ). If we only had men and women with wisdom and understanding that would employ the right ideas then our country would not have as many problems as we have today. If more individuals possessed ethical standards for working, relationships, money handling, etc., etc...you get the idea. More people would recieve the care, food, clothing, shelter, medical care, education, and outright compassion they desire if we would follow the principles God has given us (those same principles our founding fathers tried to install in our Constitution so many years ago). It is the same concept as someone trying to improve reading comprehension in an already proven useless way: We need to get back to God, His Word, and His Will instead of trying to improve it our way. Use the proven method. After that has taken place (and I believe it will) then we will see a return to prosperity and peace (see Joshua 1:8, II Chronicles 7:14). The only place that peace is threatened, if you can't already tell, is where we are near the proper place God wants us.
For those who seem to think Christianity is bad...let's look at the other side of what God tells us we should "think on": Galatians 5:22-23, Phillipians 4:8. I am pretty sure any person in their right mind could not argue against these verses. Since when is purity and goodness a bad thing?
So from a conspiracy standpoint...are we intentionally being "dumbed" down so we can more easily be manipulated and controlled by those in charge?
Oops! I have to grade papers now.....
